FEATURING ISAAC SCHLUETER
As host of the DECODED show, and head of the Developer Experience team at Microsoft, John Shewchuk taps into the energy of the world’s most mind-bendingly talented software engineers.
He’s here to push the envelope. John and his team are always up to tackle epic challenges and deliver solutions that operate at the highest scale.
They travel the world to connect with the global tech community and collaborate with developers from every corner of the tech industry.

After studying for 5 years at Southern Connecticut State University, and 4 years at Yahoo!, Isaac Z. Schlueter threw himself at trying to make server-side JavaScript happen, which led him to create the package manager for Node.js, and eventually found npm, Inc.
npm has close to 4 million active users, and is the core of modern open-source JavaScript collaboration. npm, Inc. provides solutions for enterprises that want to use the same tools for their proprietary JavaScript code as well.

As a grad school drop out working on the Internal Tools team at Twitter, JacobThornton created Bootstrap as a framework to encourage consistency across internal tools.
Before Bootstrap, multiple libraries were used for interface development, which led to inconsistencies and a high maintenance burden.

After years consulting for software companies in NYC, Gabe founded Deis to help teams streamline application delivery using Docker and Kubernetes.
Prior to Deis, developers would use messy deployment systems that were unreliable and difficult to scale.

Back in 2013, Microsoft had a big problem — software developers were showing little interest in talking to the company, let alone working with them.
Given that Microsoft relies on these folks to build Windows apps and buy Microsoft technology, this was a really bad sign.

For Microsoft, 2015 was a year that’ll go down in the history books — and not because it released a new version of Windows or Office, but because the company fundamentally shifted in a big way by embracing open source.
John Shewchuk, a technical fellow at Microsoft whose job it is to bring the community closer to the company, started a video podcast called Decoded, which offers regular deep insight into developer focused topics with interesting people from the industry.

Last week, Microsoft quietly released the latest episode in its series on code, Decoded. Focusing on the intricacies of different coding practices and techniques. While episode one featured an interview with Jacob Thornton, the co-inventor of Bootstrap, the most popular code on GitHub, episode two features Node expert Isaac Schlueter.
Somewhat surprisingly, the release of episode two has been so quiet, the video has only been viewed just over 2,500 times. This is despite the fact that John Shewchuck – Microsoft’s self-proclaimed chief geek, aka Technical Fellow – is the show’s presenter.
